All the core services of Puducherry Postal Division are set to become more speedy and efficient with the ongoing rollout of Core System Integration (CSI) beginning Tuesday.
The Postal Division closed all the core services except postal deliveries from May 12 for preparatory purposes.
Akhil R. Nair, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Pondicherry Division, said that once this system is rolled out, the data would move faster than it used to.
For instance, when a speed post is desptached, the information related to it is sent to the destination only by evening. Once CSI is rolled out, everything is online and information will be updated every four minutes. This will help the data move faster. People will be able to track their information fast. By this integration, each and every post office will work on a single platform in the country,” he said.
India Post has taken up IT modernisation project for improving its operations and service delivery in several phases.
People continued to visit the Head Post office until Monday unaware of the migration process. “We had to stop the services for two days to move from the legacy system to the new system in order to sanitise data. E-payments, Electronic Money Orders or Cash on Deliveries have been integrated in the CSI,” he said.
Teething problems likely
Mr. Nair stated that there might be teething problems in the beginning but the process will be streamlined at the earliest. The whole project will be completed in India by September. After that, every information can be tracked and monitored easily.
The Puducherry Postal Division has been preparing their employees to adapt to this new system for the past few days. Experts from other places have also come to train them on Monday.
The Core Insurance Solution went live in Puducherry Division in 2013.
“Apart from CSI, the Puducherry Division will begin the Darpan – Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office by June or July,” said a senior employee in Puducherry postal division.
