Acceding to demands of parents, students, political parties, the Government has scrapped the online counselling to be adopted in the admission of students to government quota seats through Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC).

On May 1, the Government while notifying norms for admission, had announced procedures for online counselling.

It stated that CENTAC will adopt the on-line counselling method from this year.

Dates for the counselling would be sent through SMS, e-mail. The notification also asked the candidates to log in to the CENTAC website only by paying processing fees through online mode.

Corrigendum

However, issuing a corrigendum on Tuesday, the government said that the counselling for courses would be conducted at the office of the CENTAC, Pondicherry Engineering College, Pillaichavady. Candidates will be called for counselling as per their order of merit in each course.

Candidates to be called will be intimated through call letters or public notification. They can generate the call letter from the CENTAC website.

Doing away the system of payment of processing fees through online, the order specified that the counselling fee should be in form of demand draft. It also deleted the earlier clause - intimation through SMS or e-mail for original certificate verification ahead of counselling.

Introducing a clause, the order said, “At any time, if the CENTAC/ college authorities find that admission has been offered based on false/incorrect information/documents and suppression of relevant facts, education qualification or quota, the admission offered or the admission already completed shall be cancelled irrespective of the stage of that course. Further legal proceedings will be initiated against such candidates for such action.”

French nationals

Government also clarified that French nationals residing in the Puducherry UT and covered by terms of the ‘Treaty of Cession’ shall be treated on a par with the candidates who produce the prescribed Puducherry Union Territory residence certificate.

Such French nationals will be required to produce ‘residence’ certificate issued by the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management, Puducherry not below the rank of Deputy Tahsildar.

In addition, they should produce a certificate of registration issued for this purpose from the French Consulate at Puducherry.
