The Congress on Thursday alleged that the Union Territory had turned bankrupt under the AINRC Government with the question of government employees getting their salaries on time becoming a serious issue.

Speaking at an agitation organised by the Youth Congress in front of the Employment Exchange, AICC general secretary and former Union Minister for State V. Narayanasamy said that Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had failed to address crucial issues like unemployment and to provide job to one member from each family in the UT as promised in the election manifesto.

The Chief Minister has been on the spree of providing jobs through the back door to people from Kathirgamam constituency bypassing the Employment Exchange without addressing the issue of over 2.25 lakh persons who had registered their names with the office.

Mr. Narayanasamy said the employment exchange had become defunct since the details of jobs and vacancies in various government departments were not made available.

The Government Treasury has become bankrupt under the AINRC Government and even government employees are in a fix over getting their salaries on time.

Employees of several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and cooperative institutions in Puducherry and Karaikal have not been paid salary for several months while non-official chairmen of the undertakings have been splurging money.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that the Chief Minister had been diverting funds allotted in the budget for most of the departments in making available freebies such as mixies and grinders in order to please the people ahead of the Assembly elections in 2016.

Attempts were being made to divert Rs.17 crore collected as cess for the welfare of the unorganised labourers sector for implementation of various welfare schemes.

The free rice scheme has not been implemented properly and all the promises held out to the people have been thrown to the winds.

Mr. Rangasamy has been showing interest in launching schemes only to wind them within months of commencement, he alleged. He re-launches the same scheme to give the impression that he is keen about the welfare of the people, the Congress leader said.

People should be aware of his gimmicks and teach an effective lesson to the AINRC in the Assembly polls. Leader of opposition V. Vaithilingam and Pradesh Congress Committee president A.V. Subramanian participated in the agitation.
