Provide alternative jobs to contract sanitary workers, panel tells officials

The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis has directed the district administration to identify manual scavengers working on contract and provide alternative jobs to them and take steps for their rehabilitation.

Jagadish Hiremani, member of the commission, told a review meeting in Cuddalore on Monday that sanitary workers engaged on outsourcing basis should be immediately identified. They should be given with alternative employment.

Mr. Hiremani directed the district administration to build houses for the manual scavengers under the Union and State government schemes before 2022.

Safety equipment

He enquired about minimum wages, pension, housing, education and provision of loans with officers and members of various labour unions.

The member said that safety equipment should be made available to conservancy workers across the district and that scholarships should be provided in time to students.
