Tirupathi Rao Padi, a professor at the Department of Statistics, Pondicherry University, has beaten the best in the world at a contest on operational research (stochastic programming) hosted by the International Agency for Standards and Ratings (IASR).

The IASR picked Prof. Padi the winner in the World Championship-2019 in Operational Research (Stochastic Programming) and also certified him Fellow, Directorate of Statistics, IASR (Lifetime Membership), for outstanding scientific contributions in his domain. The citation acknowledges the outstanding international contributions of Prof. Padi and rates him among the world’s 500 most influential experts in Operational Research for 2019.

Altogether, there were 5,472 nominations, from 82 countries, screened for the World Championship-2019 in Operational Research (Stochastic Programming). The professor’s highest rated research article “Stochastic Programming on Optimal Drug Administration for Three-Stage Cancer Chemotherapy Treatment” was considered for the competition.

The highlights of the article include discussions on a stochastic model for three-stage cancer growth, considered for formulating the objective function and constraints for maximising drug efficacy on the admissible protocols of healthy administration and evaluation of the patient’s status during the presence and absence of the drug. This will provide “dynamic digital dashboards” for monitoring of cancer patients under treatment.

Gurmeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University, felicitated Prof. Padi on his achievement in a brief function at the University recently. According to a press note, Prof. Padi joined the Pondicherry University as an associate professor in 2012. He is an expert member in several academic and research committees.

Prof. Padi’s focus areas are stochastic modelling, optimization methods, data envelopment analysis, applied operational research, statistical computing, biostatistics, data analytics and decision science.
