Equestrians from various riding schools in Puducherry, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ambur, Tirupur and Coimbatore will participate in the 19th Pondicherry Equestrian Challenge, scheduled to kick-start at the sprawling Red Earth Riding School (RERS) at Auroville.

The four-day event hosted by RERS and Equestrian Promotion Private Limited will see highly trained international and national riders from various clubs competing in dressage and show-jumping events.

The riders will demonstrate their precision and finesse by executing complicated dressage moves — accurately dimensioned circles, leg yielding and counter canter. The jumping competitors will compete over complex courses with heights ranging from 60 cm up to 130 cm and 140 cm courses for advanced horses and riders, RERS said in a release.

The event will culminate on Sunday with two levels of grand prix jumping events, technical courses which require greater skill and accuracy.

Fun events

The day will also witness fun events with horses and rider combos competing to scale heights, often surpassing 170 cm, the release added.

Organisers of the event said Eva-Maria Vint-Warmington, a four-star Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) judge will preside over the dressage event.

Lieutenant General R.K. Swamy, an international show-jumping judge, will oversee the event.

The events will be held from 7. 30 a.m to 9. 30 a.m and from 3. 30 p.m to 6 p.m.

Since 2000, the school had been hosting the Junior National Equestrian Championship, International Dressage Development League and the South Equestrian Championship and the Pondicherry Equestrian Challenge, the release said.
