Poll officials to undergo training programme on VVPAT system

The Election Department will conduct a training programme on the use of VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) systems for Presiding Officers, Polling officers, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, Sector Officers and counting personnel.

The officials on Tuesday took out two VVPAT machines in the presence of representatives from the political parties.

The machines will be used for the training purposes on Wednesday in Karaikal and Thursday in Puducherry.

S.Kanagaraj, nodal officer said, “The Election Commission of India has said it is necessary to provide good quality training to all election officials. Hence training programme are being conducted in Puducherry and Karaikal.

Awareness campaign

The Election Department also plans to conduct awareness campaign amongst the political parties and electors of the Assembly Constituencies, where VVPAT will be used. They will be detailed about the purpose and use of VVPAT.

“For this purpose a demonstration of the VVPAT machine system will be organised by the Returning Officers for all the candidates and political Parties”, added the officials.
