A plastic bottle crusher has been commissioned at the Puducherry railway station on Wednesday.

The PET bottle crusher machine was installed as part of the Railways’ Swachch Bharat and Go Green missions and ties in with the ban of single-use plastic imposed by the Government.

The easy-to-use crusher machines have been designed as a cost-effective means for disposal of waste plastic bottles normally discarded on trains by passengers. Once an empty bottle is fed into a horizontal slot of the refrigerator-sized machine, it is crushed into a smaller size, ready for disposal. In places where the facility is already in use, the crushed bottles are delivered for recycling to be used as raw materials for making a range of products such as carpets or shopping bags.
