Philatelic expo from Feb. 1 to mark Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary

The Department of Posts (Tamil Nadu Circle) will be hosting a three-day philatelic exhibition here — ‘Gandhipex 2019’ — from February 1 as a highlight of celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Chennai City (North Division), R. P. Chitra Devi, told reporters that former Governor of West Bengal Gopalakrishna Gandhi will inaugurate the fair on the premises of a marriage hall in Muthialpet.

She said that Chief Post Master General of Tamil Nadu Circle M. Sampath would release a special cover and cancellation on ‘Mahatma Mahakavi and Aurobindo’ on the occasion.

Schoolchildren and a number of philatelists would participate in the exhibition.

Akhil Nair, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Puducherry division, said that there were 600 philatelists in the Puducherry division.

It was expected that more than 180 philatelists would participate in the fair.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy would release a souvenir on ‘Gandhipex exhibition’ and distribute awards and medals to the winners of various competitions being held in connection with the expo on February 3, he said.
