Say self-financing colleges not sticking to fee norms

As a last resort, candidates selected for PG medical courses through Centac met the Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to resolve their issue.

Even after the government passed an order on May 14 announcing the fee structure for the admission to PG medical and dental seats in self-financing colleges, the colleges have been insisting the candidates to pay ₹38 – ₹40 lakh fees as stipulated by the management.

Irked over the college’s refusal to accept the Demand Drafts (DD), the candidates have been running from pillar to post trying to draw the attention of the government for necessary action. A candidate, on condition of anonymity, said that they had now approached the Lieutenant Governor seeking her help.

“The medical institutions are violating the law that mandates them to accept the fee structure announced by the Fee Committee. However, they continue to be adamant. The Lieutenant Governor has the powers to cancel the NOC given to these institutions if they refuse to follow the rules,” said M. Narayanassamy, president, Puducherry UT All Centac Students Parents Association.

The candidates who submitted the memorandum said that the L-G had promised to look into the issue. “We have to see what steps they will take to ensure admission to the candidates who have got seats through Centac,” said the candidates.
