A last-ditch effort: AINRC founder N. Rangasamy campaigning for S. Bouvaneswarane, his party’s candidate in the Kamaraj Nagar bypoll, on Saturday.

Opposition leader and All India N.R. Congress founder N. Rangasamy said on Saturday that people of Kamaraj Nagar were looking for a change.

Interacting with reporters during the last day of campaign for the party’s Kamaraj Nagar candidate S. Bouvaneswarane, the former Chief Minister said the voters of Kamaraj Nagar wanted a change for betterment of their constituency.

People’s anger against the Congress government’s failure to deliver on its promises would be reflected in the byelection, he said. Taking a dig at Congress candidate A. John Kumar, Mr. Rangasamy said his party’s candidate would not leave the constituency under any circumstances. However, Mr. John Kumar had shifted from Nellithope to contest in the bypoll, he pointed out.

AIADMK floor leader A. Anbalagan, who campaigned with Mr. Rangasamy, said the byelection would result in the downfall of Congress government. There would be a change of government in two months, he said.

Slams DMK

Flaying DMK president M.K. Stalin for his comments on the AIADMK-AINRC alliance, Mr. Anbalagan said the DMK president spoke during the campaign based on the script prepared by Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy.

He questioned the DMK leader for raising the issue of Statehood for the Union Territory now. “DMK was part of the UPA which ruled the country for 10 years. They could not accord Statehood then. Now, he is shedding crocodile tears for Pudhucherry’s Statehood,” he said.
