The Puducherry Congress Committee (PCC) has been finalising its campaign strategy for the Lok Sabha polls on Monday with All India Congress Committee in-charge, Sanjay Dutt, holding deliberations with top leaders and PCC functionaries here.

Mr. Dutt on Monday began his two-day deliberations to decide upon the strategy for the Lok Sabha polls by holding a meeting with Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy, Minister for Public Works A. Namassivayam, who is also the PCC chief, Ministers and the legislators at the party office.

He would continue the deliberations with PCC office-bearers and hold separate meetings with key leaders. Mr. Dutt would travel to Karaikal on Wednesday to carry forward his discussions with partymen there.

Significant

The visit of Mr. Dutt assumed greater significance as there were reports of an eminent change of guard at the helm of PCC.

Mr. Namassivayam’s continuance as PCC chief had been a topic of debate from the time he joined the Ministry as party rules did not allow dual post. However, the replacement process got delayed due to conflicting voices on the selection of the new chief.

With the party gearing up for the parliamentary elections, a section of leaders were pushing for an early solution on the appointment of new PCC chief.

“They will have to make a decision very soon as Mr. Namassivayam will not be able to discharge his electoral responsibilities by holding the post of a Minister,” said a leader.
