He was taken to hospital with diarrhoea

A 70-year-old man died after he reportedly fell into a septic tank under construction near the Orthopaedic block in the Tindivanam General Hospital on Tuesday.

The name of the victim was given as Dhanapal, a farmer of Ooral village, near Tindivanam.

The police said Dhanapal had been suffering from diarrhoea and had come to the hospital on Monday morning for treatment. Dhanapal’s son Gunasekaran, an autorickshaw driver, dropped him at the hospital and left for work.

When Gunasekaran returned after sometime, he found Dhanapal missing and alerted the hospital staff and security personnel.

Under construction

On Tuesday, a group of construction workers found the body of Dhanapal floating in a septic tank that was under construction near the Orthopaedic block. The hospital authorities immediately alerted the police.

The body was retrieved and sent for postmortem.

The police said the septic tank was not covered.
