Even as counselling for admission to plus one classes commenced in various Government schools on Friday, several students and parents on Friday complained to the School Education Department over the school authorities refusing seats to students.

Plus One admission

A large number of students who had applied for admission to plus one at the Thiruvalluvar Government Girls Higher Secondary School in the city alleged that they were refused seats.

They demanded that students from the same school and those residing in the neighbourhood should be accommodated first.

On information Government whip G. Nehru arrived to the school and urged the school authorities to allot seats to students from the same school.

He alleged that students who had studied SSLC in the same school were finding it difficult to get the course of their choice in plus one admission.

Merit-based system inevitable

However, the school authorities claimed that since the number of seats in the school was limited a merit based system was thus inevitable.

Over 1,500 students had applied for a total of 300 seats in the school.

Mr. Nehru later pacified the students and said that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and come with a solution.
