Parents demand fresh counselling for MBBS

Allege irregularities in allocation under regional quota

The Puducherry UT All Centac Students’ Parents’ Association (PCESPA) has urged the government to cancel online counselling for MBBS and hold a fresh round of counselling in the offline mode because of alleged irregularities in the admission process.

In a statement, association president M. Narayanasamy said while the Centac authorities had made efforts to conduct counselling for MBBS seats through online mode, some students from neighbouring States had adopted fraudulent means to get admission under the regional quota.

According to clause 1.9.2 of Centac booklet, a student should have lived in the region and studied in a recognised school in the region in the last three years.

The counselling for biology-based courses should be held only after the seat allotment process is made by the Medical Council of India (MCI) for the second round of counselling, he said.

“The government should immediately cancel the counselling and conduct counselling afresh in the offline mode so that certificate verification could be done thoroughly. This will ensure that only meritorious students with proper credentials are allotted the seats,” Mr. Narayanasamy added.

Further, PCESPA has urged the government to scrap the regional reservation to the students from outlying regions — Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.
