Over 300 children participated in yoga sessions, scientific workshops and awareness programmes that marked the run-up to the celebration of International Day of Yoga on June 21.

The celebrations at the Raj Nivas began with mass yoga by children from the SOS Village, Sharna School, Jally Home and other special homes. Later, they were taken on a tour of the Lt. Governer’s residence.

“They learnt to sit in silence and hear themselves breathe. They did ‘Upa yoga’ of the Isha Foundation,” Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, who was also present, said.

The workshop hosted by the Centre for Yoga Therapy, Education and Research (CYTER), Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV) featured experts who discussed ‘Divyanga Yoga: A yogic approach to children with special needs’.

It was part of the events being hosted as per the guidelines issued by the UGC and Ministry of AYUSH, in the run up to International Day of Yoga on June 21.

Subhash Chandra Parija, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV) University Vice Chancellor, talked about the integration of yoga in medical, dental and nursing education at their institution.

CYTER synergises the traditional wisdom of yoga with the scientific rigour of modern medicine for the benefit of patients. Yoga has been found to reduce stress and prevent addiction, he said.

More than 100 delegates from abroad and other Indian states attended the two-day session. Eminent experts from around the country spoke during the event.

Subodh Tiwari, CEO, Kaivalyadhama-Lonavla, Yogacharini Meenakshi Devi Bhavanani Director, International Centre For Yoga Education and Research, M.
