The morning session of the Jipmer online entrance examination on Sunday saw nearly 80.24% of students take the examination.
A senior official of Jipmer said a total of 1,89,663 students had registered this year for the entrance test, which was conducted in two sessions — between 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
The entrance examination was conducted in 75 cities across 339 centres in the country. In the morning session, 67,182 out of 83,720 registrants appeared while 82,187 out of 1,05,945 students registered for the afternoon took the test.
In Puducherry, nearly 1,861 students had registered and the online test was held in six centres including Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College, Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology, Achariya Engineering College, Alpha College of Engineering and Technology, Christ College of Engineering and Technology and PRIST University.
Jipmer Director Dr. S.C. Parija and other senior staff inspected the examination centres. Students began reporting at the centres at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Strict measures
According to an official, adequate arrangements were made for proper frisking of candidates who had to produce Aadhaar card, e-Aadhar card or passport as valid ID proof. CCTV coverage and jammers were also deployed to check malpractice.
Biometric attendance and photo capturing were part of measures to prevent impersonation.
Ground floor seating arrangements were provided for orthopaedically handicapped (OPH) candidates.
The results will be declared on or before June 19. The first counselling has been tentatively scheduled from June 27 to 30 and the second and third phases of counselling from July 19 to August 23.
Admission formalities for students who opt to join Jipmer Karaikal will be on July 3 and for students who opt joined Jipmer Puducherry will be on July 4.
Classes will commence from July 5. The cut-off for admission is September 30.
