The Puducherry Government has collected over 250 samples of Maggi noodles from various parts of the city and its suburbs and sent them for testing to the Food and Drug Testing Lab at Gorimedu here and the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru to check for levels of monosodium glutamate and lead.

A senior health department official said that Food Safety Inspectors had been collecting samples from various wholesale and retail outlets over the past two days.

The samples have been sent to CFTRI, Mysuru, for advanced analysis and to check for levels of monosodium glutamate and lead.

The government will take action based on the findings, he said. The samples are being collected by various states on the directives of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Lab results

The results of samples sent to the Food and Drug Testing Lab at Gorimedu in the city are expected on Friday, he said.
