Off to Japan for science

S. Tamizhmalar, a student from St. Patricks Matric Higher Secondary School in the city has been selected for a weeklong visit to Japan from May 7 under the Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Programme in Science (SAKURA).

Tamizhmalar is among 55 students in the country selected under the SAKURA exchange programme.

The programme aims to promote science and technology within Asian countries.

Official sources said Tamizhmalar had won the second prize at Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE), a programme organised by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to generate interest among students in science at the South level for her project on low cost solar panels.
