With the successful completion of yet another ‘Filmathon,’ the Pondicherry Independent Filmmakers group wants to see Puducherry being transformed from just a preferred destination for shooting to one that nurtures a film industry. They are set to make a formal request to the government to help them obtain a permanent venue for the screening of their films.
Last Saturday, the group hosted its fourth edition of Filmathon, showcasing 14 short films, at Hotel Atithi, in front of around 500 people. The festival was inaugurated by Tourism Minister P. Rajavelu, along with artist Sirpi Jayaraman, Head, Department of Visual Arts, Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam, T. Prabhu of New Cinemas, Cuddalore, and G. Murugan of Book Society of Pondicherry.
The festival got its dose of star attraction with the presence of actor Vijay Sethupathi and art director-actor Kiran.
Mr. Sethupathi interacted with the filmmakers in a Q&A session.
The films have been directed by filmmakers from Puducherry and shot here. Music, story and actors also find their origin here. For this edition, three films by filmmakers from Cuddalore have also been shown. Apart from films that focused on social issues like child abuse, child labour, issues in an orphanage, an old age home, there were also comedy films.
