Initiative part of company’s CSR drive

The NLCIL Sports Development Centre has identified 179 students studying in various Neyveli schools from peripheral villages, to provide coaching, as part of a ‘catch them young’ initiative.

As part of the CSR initiative, a general health check-up, including blood tests for assessing the health of the students, was undertaken in the recently organised nutrition awareness programme, a press note said.

The awareness drive for students pursuing sports activities was aimed at transforming their food habits for better health and enhanced sports performance. Around 300 students attended the programme.

R.Vikraman, Director-HR, NLCIL inaugurated the programme, in line with the year’s CSR theme – “Education, Health & Nutrition”. He appreciated the students’ sporting talent and commended their successful participation in various national, State and district level competitions. He complimented the two students from Neyveli who featured in the Tamil Nadu State Board text book for VI standard English.

He also hailed the performance of a Physical Director of Jawahar Higher Secondary School, who was part of the Tamil Nadu veteran women’s hockey team that won silver in a recent international tournament.

The programme, organised through Sano Holistic Nutrition Clinic, Chennai, was led by K.P. Divya Purushothaman, founder and chief nutritionist. She listed three factors affecting the performance of sports persons — skill development, nutritious food and rest and recovery.

N. Sadish Babu, ED-HR, R. Mohan, CGM-CSR, Education & Sports, S. Vinayagamurthy, GM-Education and K. Ramesh, DGM-Sports also participated in the programme.
