National Voter’s day celebrated

Development Commissioner-cum- Finance Secretary (in charge), Chandraker Bharti, on Sunday cautioned first time voters against unfair electoral practices.

Speaking at the Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences on the occasion of the National Voters Day, Mr.Bharti pointed to the remarks of the former Chief Election Commissioner V.Sampath who had stated that this part of the country was difficult to manage because of a mix of money power, muscle power and other aberrations.

Mr. Bharti wanted the first time voters should guard against this and try to negate the trend.

Chief Electoral Officer, T Sreekanth said aimed at facilitating voting by all who are enrolled, Election Commission of India, launched a theme for the year 2015, ‘Easy Registration, Easy Correction’.

This was to make the entire process of registration and correction of the details on the roll easier for the citizens. Mr. Sreekanth said that there would be intensive door to door campaign for revision of voters list in Union Territory to enlist all the eligible voters.

On the National Voter’ Day, R. Chandrasekaran, Electoral Registration Officer of Puducherry. Chandrasekaran, received a Best Electoral Practices Award for Electoral Registration Officer besides a citation and cash award of Rs. 15,000.

Booth level officer I.Suganya (Puducherry district) and S Usha (Karaikal) received Best Booth Level Officer awards and both received citations and Rs.5,000 cash each.

Twenty five first time voters of Indira Nagar assembly Constituency were presented the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) on the occasion of the National Voters Day. Similarly all over the Union Territory, 13,152 first time voters were honoured and received the EPIC at 557 polling station locations.
