Narayanasamy holds talks with Bedi

After a six-day political stand-off that put the national spotlight on Puducherry, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and his Cabinet colleagues on Monday evening held deliberations lasting five hours with Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi to sort out 39 contentious issues that the former had raised on February 7.

Accepting the invitation from Ms. Bedi for talks, the Chief Minister and his colleagues took a break from their agitation in front of Raj Nivas around 5 p.m. to attend the meeting. It ended around 10 p.m.

Mr. Narayanasamy then headed to the Assembly premises where he remained closeted with his colleagues. He did not interact with the media.

After Ms. Bedi refused to accept his proposal for a meeting at the Chief Secretariat, the Chief Minister wrote back on Sunday expressing his desire to have discussions without any condition.

Earlier, the Chief Minister told reporters that he had agreed to the meeting without conditions so that “people’s issues” are resolved at the earliest. He added that senior Congress leaders met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and complained about Ms. Bedi’s style of functioning.
