The municipal authorities have cleared hawkers who encroached the place near the entrance of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER).
Blocking free movement of patients and vehicles hawkers have been selling eatables such as peanuts, boiled tapioca in unhygienic conditions. Some sell fruits at exorbitant rates.
Oulgaret Municipality Commissioner M.S.Ramesh said, “Following complaints from public and activists, we have cleared the place of hawkers.
Along with the municipality staff, Public Works Department and Police were involved in the operation. It is not one-time eviction. We will monitor the place continuously and are determined to take stringent action against the hawkers.”
The commissioner said the hawkers were asked to relocate to an allotted place.
Shop keepers who have set up shops opposite the JIPMER hospital were asked to move out by municipal authorities.
