Puducherry Agriculture Minister R.Kamalakannan has requested the Karaikal district administration to clean the beach every month. He made the suggestion during a mass cleaning drive carried out in recent weeks.
The beach in Karaikal, Tourism Department sources said, is a major attraction for tourists due to its relative cleanliness and natural setting. The Minister’s emphasis articulated during the cleaning operation that had the participation of Collector R. Kesavan, MLAs, senior officials, NSS volunteers and NCC cadets, was on making it the cleanest of all beaches in the country.
The scenic beauty of the beach, visitors said, is particularly more at the point of confluence with the Arasalar river. Widening of the road along the Arasalar river to a length of two km has improved accessibility to the sandy stretch that the district administration prefers to describe as eco-beach. According to Tourist Department source, though visitors from far and near identify Karaikal with the Thirunallar Temple, the trip is not complete without a visit to the beach.
