The Congress on Saturday charged the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government with having failed on all fronts.

Addressing a press conference, All India Congress Committee secretary Chinna Reddy said the Modi government had betrayed the people’s mandate by failing to deliver on its promises.

Mr. Reddy said Mr. Modi made toll promises before the party came to power in 2014. But he failed to deliver on most counts and the time had now come to seek accountability from the government.

Terming the demonetisation of higher denomination currency notes as a complete failure, he said the NDA government could not achieve any of the stated objective. Before the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Modi promised to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks and that ₹15 lakh would be deposited in the bank account of each citizen. In the last four years not even ₹15 had been deposited so far, he said.

Mr. Modi had also promised to provide 2 crore jobs if the BJP was voted to power. However, he had failed to create even 8 lakh jobs in the last four years.

Mr. Reddy said employment opportunities vanished and oil prices soared even when international prices of crude oil were falling. People of the country had realised now that Mr. Modi made tall promises to them but failed to deliver on them. Later, the rank and file of the party staged a demonstration in front of the head post office to protest against the failure of the Modi government.
