A clash erupted between supporters of AIADMK and organisers of a village temple after AIADMK MLA L.Periyasamy was not allowed to pull the car of temple known as Koothandavar Koil in Madukarai on Wednesday.
Mr. Periyasamy said it is customary practice of inviting the local MLA during any festival. Even though he was not invited by the organisers of the temple, he went there as per wish of his party supporters. Even as he neared the temple, the organisers let alone extend any courtesy, turned hostile.
Mr. Periyasamy said, “I was abused by my caste after which my supporters sat in protest before the temple. The police pushed my supporters from the place and pulled the car from the place. My supporters were injured during the clash”.
In the minor scuffle among organisers, supporters and police personnel the MLA was allegedly injured. On hearing the news, AIADMK Legislature Party Leader P.Purushothaman joined him to protest against the police leading to a state of unease.
The MLAs staged a protest before the Nettapakkam Police Station demanding the registration of a complaint.
Mr.Sekar said, “Our party MLA was insulted and attacked during the village festival by organisers. His supporters were also injured in the incident. The police are delaying booking of the complaint.”
The incident echoed in the Assembly on Wednesday with AIADMK Legislature Party Deputy Leader A.Anbalagan claimed Mr. Periyasamy and his supporters were attacked in the village festival. Stating that there has been no protection to an MLA, he said the House should take up the issue and Chief Minister N.Rangasamy should say what steps he has taken in this case.
Speaker V.Sabapathy said he had spoken to Mr. Periyasamy and told Chief Minister to take necessary action in this regard. As he disallowed Mr. Anbalagan to speak further, Mr.Anbalagan and another AIADMK MLA A.Baskar staged a walk out.
