The Union Government’s Mission Indradhanush, an immunisation programme to cover children and pregnant women, will be launched in Puducherry and Mahe on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, K.V. Raman, Director of Health, said as many as 352 districts across the country would be covered under the second phase of the programme.

Mission Indradhanush will cover diseases such as diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis B and antigens or vaccines would be provided for them during the drive.

There will be four rounds of vaccination between October and January with each round having seven consecutive working days beginning on the 7th of each month.

Mr. Raman said the drive would cover children below two years of age and pregnant women. Vaccination centres had been set up at primary health centres and sub-health centres. A special ward has been opened at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital to treat dengue-affected patients.

As of now, one person has tested positive for dengue and is undergoing treatment in the special ward. As many as 350 field health workers have been pressed into service for dengue prevention measures, he said.

Earlier, Mr. Raman flagged off an awareness campaign on Mission Indradhanush at the Government General Hospital.
