MBBS counselling for SC seats postponed

June 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) has postponed the counselling for MBBS and BDS seats under Government Quota for candidates of the Scheduled Caste category which was scheduled to be held on Saturday to another date.

In a press release, Education Secretary and Chairman of CENTAC G. Ragesh Chandra said, “Based on an order of the Madras High Court, 22 candidates “residing” in Puducherry have also to be considered along with Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates for the counselling process under reserved seats to be allotted to the SC candidates.”

The court had also ordered that results of the counselling for the above 22 candidates should not be published and be kept only in a sealed cover to be produced before the court on the next hearing. “As per the existing procedures during counselling, candidates select their seats then and there. Hence keeping seats in sealed cover becomes difficult,” he said.

The CENTAC Chairman also said that the government has to take a decision in this regard to follow the procedure as directed by the court and the further time is required to conduct the counselling for the reserved SC quota seats. Hence, the counselling for MBBS and BDS seat for SC category proposed to be held on Saturday is postponed to another date during next week. The date and time will be separately announced after the procedure is finalised.

Need to comply with court order on 22 candidates’ inclusion holds up the process
