Man gets double life term for rape, murder

The Mahila Court in Cuddalore on Friday convicted and sentenced a 33-year-old man for raping and murdering a 16-year-old Dalit girl. Mahila Court Judge D. Lingeshwaran sentenced the accused A. Johnny alias Anbudas of MGR Thittu near Killai in Chidambaram to double life imprisonment and seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine amounts for offences under various sections of the IPC, including kidnapping and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The sentences would run concurrently.

Special Public Prosecutor said K. Selvipriya, the accused Anbudas was involved in an illicit relationship with the victim’s mother. Anbudas, who used to visit the victim’s house, kidnapped the girl on July 3, 2014 and took her to Cuddalore.

The accused confined the girl in a lodge in Cuddalore and raped her repeatedly.

On July 8, 2014, he took the girl with him to his house in MGR Thittu near Killai in Chidambaram. When the girl asked him to take her home, Anbudas attacked her with a log and strangled her to death. He later dumped the body in a canal in MGR Thittu.

The case came up in the Cuddalore Mahila Court on Friday. Judge D. Lingeshwaran sentenced Anbudas to double life imprisonment for murder and POCSO Act and slapped a fine of ₹50,000 and ₹25,000 respectively. He was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹5,000 for kidnapping the minor girl.
