Pondicherry University, NLCIL celebrate Gandhi Jayanthi

The Pondicherry University on Monday celebrated Gandhi Jayanthi. Vice-chancellor in-charge Anisa Basheer Khan led the University staff in paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma.

In her address, she exhorted students to follow the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. “Students should remember his courageous deeds and his struggle for the country’s independence. Gandhi was a man of simple living and his way of thinking is as an example to youth and students,” she said in her address.

Registrar in-charge Tharanikkarasu and Deputy Registrar (Admin) Muralidassan were among those who participated in the celebrations.

The NLC India Limited organised various functions to mark Gandhi Jayanthi.

Chairman and Managing Director of NLC India Limited Sarat Kumar Acharya garlanded Gandhi’s statue at the Township Administrative Block.

In response to the call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to organise a cleanliness drive on Gandhi Jayanthi, the public sector entity conducted a cycle rally to create awareness on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

In his address, the chairman requested people to rededicate “ourselves to adopt the principles and values of Gandhiji and more so, to practice rather than preaching.”

A cultural programme on the topic ‘Teaching and preachings of Gandhi’ was performed by various cultural and linguistic associations.

Cultural events at Jipmer

Jipmer on Monday organised patriotic song rendition, dance performances and painting exhibition as part of ‘Bavanjali’, a tribute to the the Father of the Nation during observance of Swachh Swasth Divas on Gandhi Jayanthi. The programmes were co-hosted by the Song and Drama Division, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi.

Scores of school children participated in a drawing competition.

Dr. S.C.Parija, Director, Jipmer inaugurated the exhibition.
