Reiterating his government’s stand in the continuing confrontation with Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi in the Union Territory, Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy strongly expressed that she should not act beyond her mandate.

“As for the Lieutenant Governor, she has specified authority. The Chief Minister, Minister and Members of Legislative Assembly too have specified authorities. One should not interfere in another's authority,” Mr. Narayanasamy said, while interacting with the media at the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee head office here.

“I have stated the day before yesterday too that she [Ms. Bedi] should stop from interfering in the functions of the administration. If the Lieutenant Governor functions beyond her mandate, our government would completely oppose it,” Mr. Narayanasamy added.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who was in the city, held a meeting with Mr. Narayanasamy and senior party leaders from the neighbouring Union Territory.
