The government is awaiting clearance from the Lieutenant Governor to write off loans taken by farmers from co-operative societies, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has said.
Winding up the debate on Friday on the motion of thanks to the Lieutenant Governor for her address to the House, the Chief Minister said after the file was sent for approval, the Lieutenant Governor had raised certain queries.
The government had replied to the queries, he said and added that once it received the approval, the loans would be waived off.
Listing the achievements, he said despite adverse financial circumstances, his government continued with welfare measures, including distribution of free rice, reimbursement of Centac fees and welfare pensions.
He informed the House that as promised in the last budget, the government had provided free power up to 100 units to motor pumps used by farmers for irrigation purposes.
The unveiling of the new industrial policy had resulted in setting up of new firms and job creation, he said.
Centre’s contribution
The Chief Minister said he had been invited by the Prime Minister to discuss financial matters pertaining to the Union Territory. At the recent meeting of Chief Ministers, he had highlighted the concerns of the Union Territory.
The Centre’s contribution had come down to 27%, he said.
The Chief Minister said he had requested the Centre to make amendments to include the Union Territory in the Finance Commission. The Chief Minister said the government would consider the genuine demands of the legislators and would be open to their suggestions.
The motion was later passed by a voice vote.
