LG for accelerated litter-free drive

Lt. Governor A. K. Singh does not seem too happy with the city’s cleanliness levels, especially the lack of momentum in the ongoing drive towards a litter-free tourist destination.

On Saturday, Mr. Singh directed the administration to devise a ‘Swacch Pondy’ mission to accelerate the progress towards a litter-free State.

Conducting a review of the campaign launched under the Swacch Bharath Abhiyan, Mr. Singh expressed concern over the tardy progress and noted that the city was still far away from its goal of turning litter-free.

The Lt. Governor has tasked Chief Secretary Chetan Sanghi with launching the “Swachh Pondy” mission.

The mission mode shall have focussed campaign with intensive media campaign to highlight the importance of cleanliness and tone up the the functioning of the municipal corporations with measurable targets.

He directed the officers concerned to put in place measures to give impetus to the clean campaign.

The officers have also been directed to launch Information, Education and Communications (IEC) campaigns for increased awareness and participation of the public in the campaign.

The nodal departments were directed to explore the aspect of imposing fine on repeat offenders. Collectors and regional administrators will carry out an intensive campaign in the coming weeks.
