Members of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the head post office here demanding that the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into admission of students in self-financing medical colleges in the Union Territory be done under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
Leading the demonstration, R. Rajangam, secretary of CPI(M), alleged that the government had granted no-objection certificates to the colleges on the condition that they would surrender 50% of the seats to government quota for students hailing from Puducherry.
The managements refused to surrender the seats.
Alleging lack of transparency in the admission through the Centralised Admission Committee, the CPI (M) sought the probe to be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The probe should also cover the irregularities in 2011.
The government should cancel the no-objection certificate granted to medical colleges which did not abide by the fee structure.
