‘Union govt. should use RBI reserve money to create jobs.’

Leaders of Left parties on Wednesday staged a demonstration near the Head Post Office to highlight the economic slowdown and to condemn the economic policies of the Centre.

Workers belonging to the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) raised slogans and wanted the Centre to take steps to revive the economy.

In a pamphlet, the Left parties said the Centre should utilise ₹1.76 lakh crore taken from the Reserve Bank of India for public investment programmes and to create jobs and increase consumption. The Centre must provide unemployment allowance to youth and ensure ₹18,000 a month as minimum wage. The government should stop privatisation of public sector undertakings. CPI secretary A.M. Saleem and CPI(M) secretary R. Rajangam were present.
