Leaders, public pay tribute to Gandhiji

Political leaders and people from all walks of life paid tributes at the Gandhi Square on Promenade Beach during "Gandhi Jayanthi" celebrations here on Friday.

On behalf of the Puducherry Government, Lieutenant Governor A.K. Singh, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, Assembly Speaker V. Sabapathy, Ministers- P. Rajavelu, N.G. Pannirselvam and T. Thiagarajan, Member of Parliament R. Radhakrishnan, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida and officials garlanded the statue of Gandhi. They also paid floral tributes to a portrait of the father of nation.  

Tourists on a visit to the city also paid their tributes to the apostle of peace. Some were seen taking selfies with the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the backdrop.

All faith prayer meet

An all faith prayer meeting was held at the venue and patriotic songs were also sung by teachers of Jawahar Bal Bhavan. 

Leader of Opposition V.Vaithilingam, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president A.Namassivayam and leaders of Congress party also paid tributes to the Father of the Nation.
