Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Friday accused Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi of returning the file relating to distribution of gift hampers for Pongal.

Speaking at the 134th Foundation Day of the Congress at the party office here, Mr. Narayanasamy said when the file relating to distribution of gift hamper to all cardholders was sent to Ms. Bedi, she returned it taking the stand that only below poverty line (BPL) families should be covered.

‘Embarrassing situation’

This was an embarrassing situation, which not only hits the people but also brings a bad name to the government.

The government had been taking care of the people and would overcome the hurdles. Mr. Narayanasamy said the present rule by the BJP-headed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had caused havoc in the country, aggravated unemployment and decimated the economic growth.

During the Congress regime, the country witnessed progress in all sectors and in ameliorating the lot of the poor, he said.

PCC president A. Namassivayam was present.
