Jipmer has initiated campus digitisation that cloud-stores all particulars of its entire medical student fraternity.

The move, which came about after a visit earlier this year by Jipmer Director S.C. Parija to the IIM-Indore, has been implemented by Dean-Academics R. P. Swaminathan.

According to Jipmer, campus digitisation involves capturing all data regarding the student at the time of admission itself starting from his/her name, date of birth, address, father/guardian/s name, registration number, course of study, duration of study, biometrics, digital signature, attendance, thesis, publications and all his/her certificates.

In short, the entire gamut of relevant data about each student is stored in the cloud ready for access by authorities using a designated user name and password.

Students also can access to their data, time table, exam dates and their internal assessment, hostel allotment and library journals using their ID. There is no scope for data manipulation and all security measures have been incorporated, Jipmer said.

Online checking of certificates and certificate verification is made available in the academic section. Parents will be allowed to access and find out their wards performance (attendance, marks scored or any other issues).

Jipmer expects through the move to tie in with its other green campus initiatives by substantially reducing paper work. Already all student data pertaining to each and every student of Jipmer (MBBS, MD/MS, DM/MCH, Ph.D, Bsc Nursing, Bsc MLT, Msc Nursing, MPH courses) from 2008 onwards had been digitised.
