Varsity celebrates the life and ideologies of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar

The Ambedkar Chair and Annamalai University were among the host of institutions that observed the recent death anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The ‘Maha Parinirvana Diwas’ saw floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait led by Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr.V. Murugesan and Dr. RM. Chandrasekaran, Controller of Examinations.

Others who participated were T. Charles, Member Syndicate, Annamalai University, Mathukur Ramalingam, Vice-President of the Tamilnadu Manila Murpoku Ezuthala Sangam, Dr.V. Rathikarani, Assistant Professor, Dr. Ambedkar Chair.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said that Dr. Ambedkar had done a great job in drafting the Indian Constitution which now serves as the backbone of the nation. Pointing out that Dr. Ambedkar belonged not to any individual group, but to all Indians, he appealed to the community to follow the late visionary’s principles.

Faith in democracy

Champion of oppressed Dr. Murugesan, in his presidential address, highlighted Ambedkar’s versatility and his campaign against social discrimination of Dalits. Mr. Charles, stressed the depth of Dr. Ambedkar’s faith in democracy. The Minister later distributed cash prizes and certificates to the eight winners of the essay competition conducted by the Dr. Ambedkar Chair in association with the National Commission for Women.

Mathukur Ramalingam delivered the memorial lecture on “Dr. Ambedkarin panmugathanmai ”. Dr.K. Soundararajan, Associate Prof, Dr. Ambedkar Chair conveyed the vote of thanks. The faculty from the IFET College of Engineering, Villupuram, won the Class-A award with a cash prize in the All-India level e-Yantra contest using a Firebird V robot. IIT Bombay conducted All India Task Based Training (TBT-2018) sponsored by MHRD New Delhi. The IFET faculty team consisting of P. Hemalatha, T. Ananth kumar, Venkatesan and V. Prasanna successfully completed all the tasks using the Firebird V robot and grabbed the award. IFET Chairman K.V. Raja , Vice -Chairman A. Mohamed Ilyas , Secretary K. Shivram Alva, Principal G. Mahendran , Vice Principal S. Matilda and Dean-Placement Prof. J. Asha congratulated the winners.

Deans and other faculty also participated.
