The Puducherry government pressed into service a hi-technology, fully-equipped ambulance sponsored by New India Assurance under the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme at a cost of Rs. 25 lakh.
Chief Minister N. Rangasamy dedicated the ambulance, which has been donated to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute, Kathirkamam, to the public at a flag-off event organised at the institute.

Mr. Rangasamy also announced the introduction of five Tata Sumo car ambulances which will serve the Primary Health Centres in Villianur, Thirukannur, Bahour, Kirumampakkam and Thirubuvanai.
The ambulances have been procured at Rs. 25.9 lakh. Apart from these, a medicine van, procured by the Government of India, is being introduced for the transportation of expensive vaccines and preventive medicine from Chennai to Puducherry. The van is equipped to keep vaccines at the optimum temperature.
The programme was attended by Dr. K.V. Raman, Director, Department of Health and Family Welfare Services, Dr. V. Govindaraj, Director, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute and K. Ravishankar, Deputy General Manager, New India Assurance, among others.
