History-sheeter arrested

The police on Tuesday arrested a history-sheeter in connection with the murder of a migrant worker in Thirubhuvanai near here on Monday. The accused has been identified as Sasi alias Sasikumar, 38 of Thirubhuvanai.

Police said the victim Latchumanan, a native of Odisha was found dead with his throat slit in a sugarcane field in Thirubhuvanai. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the victim was last seen with Sasikumar.

Police said Sasikumar and Latchumanan were walking towards a friend’s house to get a can of kerosene when Sasikumar asked the victim to lend him ₹20 to buy liquor. When Latchumanan refused, the accused in a fit of rage slit his throat killing him on the spot. Police said that Sasikumar was involved in cases of murder and theft. He confessed to his involvement in the crime. He was arrested and remanded to custody.
