Puducherry and Auroville residents can look forward to a performance by Suhasini Maniratnam on Thursday, with the actor’s play, ‘Reading Between The Lines’ at the Adishakti theatre campus near Auroville.

The play has been adapted from Sujatha Rangarajan’s short story Iru Kaditham (Two Letters).

It was first performed in Singapore 2006, and later in Hyderabad and the U.S. It will be in the format of a play reading, says Ms. Suhasini, and follows an Indian woman living in the U.S. writing a letter to her mother in Mylapore.

In the genre of black comedy, the play promises to take the audience by surprise with a twist in the end. The actor says her dabbling with the world of theatre has been ‘fascinating’ but adds, “I am a part-time theatre person.”

“Theatre actors are racing 100 metres in 10 seconds, while film actors are racing 100 metres in 10 years,” she concludes.

The play, ‘Reading Between the Lines’ will be staged at Adishakti, Edayanchavady Road, near Auroville, on June 11 at 7 p.m.
