Govt. to bring online admission for all courses under Centac

Students only need to fill up a common application with options to choose desired courses

In a major admission reform in the higher education sector, the government has decided to bring online admission process of all professional, non-professional, catering, diploma, fine arts, lateral entry and part time diploma courses under a single platform.

From the current academic year, a student need to fill up a common application online with options to choose desired courses. There will be no need to apply in different colleges for different courses.

Website launch today

Informing the decision at a press conference here on Tuesday, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the Centralised Admission Committee (Centac) which was hitherto only managing medical and engineering admission would take up the new admission process.

Centac would launch a website www. centacpuducherry. in on Wednesday for downloading the brochure. The portal would provide complete information about all the courses in the Union Territory. There are a total of 15.063 courses in the UT.

Five separate volumes containing information about courses could be downloaded by online payment of ₹50 per volume.

Help desks to be set up

Around 30 help desks would be set up in government colleges, especially those in rural areas, to assist students in filling the forms, the Chief Minister said.

The new admission process, which according to him was the first of its kind in the country, would bring more transparency. It would also reduce the hardship of students, he said.

To a question on the Sterlite Copper company in Thoothukudi, Mr. Narayanasamy said he welcomed the decision to shut down the plant. He also condemned the killing of people in police firing.

On the protest against expansion of Shasun Chemicals at Kalapet here, he said a decision would be taken only on the basis of report submitted by the Pollution Control Board.

Minister for Health Malladi Krishna Rao, and Minister for Education R. Kamalakannan and Secretary Education A. Anbarassu were present.
