Free cleft lip, palate surgery camp from February 24

Mission Smile, in association with Muthoot Pappachan Foundation, will be conducting a five-day camp from February 24 to perform reconstructive surgeries on children with cleft lip and palates from Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.

The surgeries will be performed free of cost at the New Medical Centre Hospital on Mahatma Gandhi Road.

According to Dr. Arjun Sundaram, Executive Director of New Medical Centre, a team of experts in cleft surgery from various backgrounds such as plastic surgery, anaesthesiology, paediatrics, speech therapy, dentistry and nursery and a team of volunteers from the U.S., the U.K., Singapore and Japan would participate in the fourth consecutive mission in Puducherry.

The team of doctors, medical and non-medical staff from New Medical Centre and Mission Smile, will conduct the surgeries on all the five days. Over 180 children underwent free surgery programme in Puducherry in the last three missions, he said.
