During a surprise inspection conducted at the Railway Station, the police on Wednesday arrested four persons and seized from their possession 200 grams of ganja and 20 kg of banned tobacco products.

A team led by Inspector General of Police V. J Chandran was inspecting the Railway Station as part of its crackdown on drug peddlers when the train from Bhubaneswar reached the station. During a search, the police found 200 g of ganja and 20 kg of banned tobacco products concealed in bags . The four arrested are from Odisha.

Police have ordered a crackdown on peddlers following information that drugs and banned products are being smuggled into Puduchery from neighbouring States in trains and buses. In the last four months, 20 cases have been registered in connection with seizure of cannabis. Till March this year, around 20 persons have been arrested and about 9 kg of weeds seized from their custody.
