Employees of fair price shops in Puducherry staged a demonstration in front of the Department of Cooperation office in Ilango Nagar on Wednesday demanding the release of pending salary for the last 17 months.

A spokesperson of the Fair Price Shops Society Workers’ Cooperative Association said that about 660 employees working in around 313 ration shops were yet to receive their salary for about 17 months. Though repeated representations were made to the authorities concerned, it failed to evoke any response.

Appeal to government

The employees urged the government to bring all the fair price shops under various Cooperatives under the control of the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to ensure immediate disbursal of pending salaries.
