Experts brainstorm on maritime security issues

Maritime experts and Indian policy practitioners from several places in the country have assembled here for undertaking serious deliberations on issues such as regional and sub-regional cooperation, maritime security and maritime boundary issues.

Association of Asia Scholars and Pondicherry University have organised a three day international conference on “Maritime Security: Unlocking India’s great power partnership.”

Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy formally inaugurated the conference in the presence of Lieutenant General (Retd) V.R. Raghavan and others.

Prof. Chandra said, India is a rising maritime power and its natural location and geography brings it enormous challenges and responsibilities especially on issues in and around the surrounding ocean. This provides India a very effective platform for engaging major powers to evolve joint strategies.

Lieutenant-General (Retd) Raghavan stressed upon the importance of maritime security. Swaran Singh, president, Association of Asia Scholars and its secretary general Reena Marwah were present on the occasion.
