Aiming to prevent the distribution of liquor to voters in the run up to forthcoming elections, Excise Department have issued series of instructions to all distilleries, brewery, wholesale dealers and retailers of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the Union Territory.
Deputy Commissioner (Excise) S. Abel Rozario held a meeting with owners of distilleries, brewery, whole sale dealers and retailers on Monday. He explained to them about the instructions of Election Commission of India (ECI) and asked them to comply with the directions immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner said the distribution of liquor to the voters during election is an electoral offence. The ECI has instructed to monitor the production, storage and distribution of liquor during election period. The ECI has also directed to furnish a daily report in this regard.
The representatives of distilleries and a brewery were told to install closed circuit television cameras with 24&7 back up and recording facility up to one month.
They should also produce daily report with details of opening stock, production, despatch, and closing stock.
The representatives of whole sale dealers were asked to maintain stock register with dealer- wise, brand wise and pack- wise details on dispatch of liquor stock.
