Escort vehicle accident: constable suspended

Two people died in the mishap

Saravanan, a constable attached to the Villupuram Armed Reserve Police, has been placed under suspension after the police escort vehicle he was driving rammed two motorcycles and a cyclist near the Gengarampalayam checkpost killing three persons on the spot.

The names of the two of three victims were given as Mannankatti, 60, of Maankuppam near Valavanur and Babu, 30, of Kondangi while the identity of the third person is yet to be ascertained.

The patrol vehicle had escorted DMK president M.K. Stalin to Puducherry and was returning to Villupuram when the accident occurred at around 5.30 p.m.

Police sources said Superintendent of Police S. Jayakumar ordered the suspension of Saravanan.
